Το Εθνικό Θέατρο της Αθήνας έχει μεγάλες ευκαιρίες να κάνει αισθητικό και κριτικό σκηνικό έργο ερμηνεύοντας, διευρύνοντας και αναλύοντας την άμεση πραγματικότητα. Και η πραγματικότητα και του θέατρου και όλων μας είναι και οι μετανάστες, οι ναρκομανείς, οι περιθωριακοί, όλοι οι απελπισμένοι που τώρα καταλαμβάνουν και λερώνουν τον τόσο ωραίο γύρω χώρο του Εθνικού Θεάτρου. Συγγραφείς, σκηνοθέτες, σκηνογράφοι, ενδυματολόγοι, φωτογράφοι και πολλοί άλλοι θα μπορούσαν να δημιουργήσουν και να διαμαρτυρηθούν κατά των αιτιών, να καταδείξουν και να προτείνουν, μελετώντας και μετουσιώνοντας το σημαντικό όσο και σκοτεινό αυτό μέρος της σύγχρονης Αθήνας, του κόσμου όλου. «Ντροπή» για το θέατρο είναι που θέλει να μετατοπίσει το πρόβλημα, αντί να το αντιμετωπίσει με την τραγική συνείδηση που μόνο η απεριόριστα καταφατική δημιουργική τέχνη μπορεί να διαθέσει, αντί να καλέσει όλους αυτούς που θέλει τώρα να διώξει μέσα στο θέατρο, πάνω στη σκηνή του, να τούς δώσει λόγο ύπαρξης και έκφρασης.
The National Theatre of Athens has great opportunities to create aesthetic and critical scenic work by interpreting, broadening and analyzing the immediate reality. And the reality of the theatre and of all of us includes the immigrants, the drug addicts, the marginalized, all the desperate who now occupy and dirty the otherwise so beautiful space around the National Theatre. Authors, directors, set and clothes designers, photographers and many others could create and protest against the causes, show and suggest, by studying and transforming this important as well as dark part of modern Athens, of the modern world. “Shame” for the theatre is that it wants to displace the problem, instead of confronting it with the tragic awareness that only the limitless affirmative creative art can offer, instead of inviting all those it wants to chase away now inside the theatre, on its stage, and give them the reason and words to live and express themselves.
